  • Penche Monet Atelier
Penche Monet Atelier is work of art that reveals the depth of Richard MacDonald’s study of classical ballet. Pure in line, but difficult to execute, the penche movement highlights the physicality of the dancer’s body which has always held great interest for the artist. The graceful form of Penche Monet eludes us to the beauty of a ballerina with her elegantly outstretched arm, the precision, control of her balance, and the serene expression on her classically refined face. Penche Monet emphasizes the grace with which she is able to make her movements seem effortless. The subtle color shifts from warm and earthy, to cool and polished, giving a sense of the ballerina’s growth from something lovely by nature into something refined by art. This work exemplifies the artist’s process of becoming visually and physically aware of all aspects of his subject by sculpting from life.
