Brenda is the nude study of a large Black woman whose bold, honest strength portrays an aspect of humanity not necessarily held as beautiful by popular culture. “Anything in nature can be beautiful,” says MacDonald. “My goal as an artist is to see that clearly. In her proud, deliberate stance, Brenda is an investigation of the beauty of mankind. What attracted me to her is her persona and how beautiful I found her. This is a very visceral, very honest, very forward, very proud statement.”
